Where South Carolina Crews Need Temporary Showers

  1. Recent storms and recovery work

Tropical Storm Debby made its second landfall near Bulls Bay on August 8, 2024, after days of rain. The National Weather Service office in Charleston recorded more than 18 inches in Summerville, and Charleston put a citywide curfew in place. Weeks later, Helene cut power to about 1.3 million customers statewide, with Greenville, Spartanburg and Aiken among the hardest-hit areas.

  2. Major construction underway

Boeing broke ground on its $1 billion-plus 787 campus expansion in North Charleston on November 7, 2025. Boeing estimates up to 2,500 construction workers on site at peak, and the work is slated to finish in early 2027. In Blythewood, the roughly $2 billion Scout Motors plant was still under construction in February 2026, with its supplier park being built alongside it.

  3. Renovation and expansion at working facilities

Charleston International Airport is adding a roughly $100 million concourse with new gates while the airport keeps running. The West Gates expansion topped out in May 2026, and completion is expected around the end of 2026 or early 2027.

  4. Emergency access routes

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division coordinates major disasters from the State Emergency Operations Center in West Columbia. McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, on the other side of Columbia, served as the state's response and logistics hub after the 2015 floods, Hurricane Matthew and Florence. From the coast, the state's published hurricane corridor is I-26 from Nexton Parkway (exit 197) near Summerville to I-77 in Columbia, the stretch used for lane reversal. These are public emergency operations, not our delivery routes.
