Tropical Storm Debby made its second landfall near Bulls Bay on August 8, 2024, after days of rain. The National Weather Service office in Charleston recorded more than 18 inches in Summerville, and Charleston put a citywide curfew in place. Weeks later, Helene cut power to about 1.3 million customers statewide, with Greenville, Spartanburg and Aiken among the hardest-hit areas.

Emergency access routes
The South Carolina Emergency Management Division coordinates major disasters from the State Emergency Operations Center in West Columbia. McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, on the other side of Columbia, served as the state's response and logistics hub after the 2015 floods, Hurricane Matthew and Florence. From the coast, the state's published hurricane corridor is I-26 from Nexton Parkway (exit 197) near Summerville to I-77 in Columbia, the stretch used for lane reversal. These are public emergency operations, not our delivery routes.
